Arctic Tundra is the best way to describe Upstate New York right now. Frigid temperatures and blustery winds that cut right to your core! But between the elements outside, and the dry indoor heat, the surface of your skin is probably feeling the effects too.
This past week my skin felt so dry, so I circled back to one of my tried and true practices for cold winter months. And if the title of this post is any indication – you probably have the main ingredient in your kitchen. This is a completely organic and all natural method for the entire family. Devin and I love a good spa moment, and we have so much fun doing this kind of stuff together.
I think it is important that children understand how important it is to take care of their skin. Whether that be sunscreen, moisturizing or making sure to drink plenty of water. Devin always notices how good these little practices feel. Self care is truly nourishing at any age.
SUPPLIES
Organic Coconut Oil – This one has a delicious scent!
Clean Wash Cloth – I love the bamboo cloths!
Rose Quartz Facial Roller – this optional, but also inexpensive and worth the investment!
COCONUT OIL DISCLAIMER : You may have heard that coconut oil is not appropriate for the face. If you have oily skin, I would be cautious. However, for this process we are using the oil more as a deep cleanser. At the end you will use the wash cloth to gently exfoliate and remove the oil from the surface of the skin. If you are still weary, you could use Jojoba Oil or Marula Oil.
PROCESS
Place your Quartz Roller in the freezer, and wash your face. I have been loving the Earth To Skin Super Greens Cleanser. Really inexpensive, and I love the texture. I also like the Olay Collagen Peptide Cleanser. Start by running the tap so your water is nice and hot by the time you are ready for the steaming process. Next, scoop out a little coconut oil, and rub into your fingertips to emulsify. Massage the oil over your face, making sure to get your neck! Grab your washcloth and soak it with very warm water (not too hot – it will burn!), ring it out and then drape it over your face. The moisturizing effects are enhanced by the steam! Pat/wipe away the excess. Grab the roller from the freezer and have at it. Rolling and massaging will stimulate and allow the oil to absorb more efficiently into your skin. Plus the hot/cold sensation feels amazing!
The rules of face rolling
1. Always roll upwards and in one direction – never roll up and down.
2. Repeat up to five upward rolls in each area. First, roll outwards under the jawline to the ear.
3. Next, use the face roller to roll out under the cheekbones to the ear.
4. Lastly, roll flat along the brows, and then upwards on the forehead.
5. Work more slowly over the neck and jawline, but be brisk to firm over and under the cheeks.
Let me know if you give this a try! And stay warm:)
See you soon!
