Spring can be quite elusive in Upstate New York! But slowly, and I mean slowly, the chilly mornings have finally given way to warmer afternoons. Although complaining about the weather is a favorite pastime here, it really is miraculous to watch the seasons unfold. For me, each transition acts as a bit of awakening. A reminder of subtle shifts. A chance for inspiration.
Last weekend I opened all the windows in the house, did a deep clean (that lasted one day) and started to think about a Spring decor refresh. I did a quick search of the West Elm and Pottery Barn websites and came across the most adorable centerpiece with a Bunny Terrarium. Just the other day I noticed a glass cloche in the shape of an egg in the Target Dollar Spot! Ahhh, the pieces were falling into place for the perfect dupe. The perfect kid-friendly dupe!
Last I checked, there were still quite a few glass eggs left, so if you want to try this…run! You could also just pick up a regular glass cloche at Target, they have quite a few.
Next, I hit up the Dollar Tree. I remembered seeing a whole section of “Fairy Garden” supplies and thought something might work for our terrariums. Side note – they had so many cute things to create a Fairy Garden Kit. This would be a great project to circle back to during the summer. I grabbed a set with a little arbor and tree, then also grabbed some faux ferns and grasses. They did have one ceramic bunny, but it had a loop on the top, almost like an ornament, so I wasn’t sure it would work. There are tons of cute bunny figurines on Amazon, but I ended up finding some at our local thrift shop.
My kids were really excited to make them. Leo was particularly excited to use the hot glue gun. To prep, I cut up the greenery and set out the other materials they could choose from. This project was really simple, but something that I know I will look forward to displaying each year. They are just so cute!
While I was at the Dollar Tree I found a bunch of other fun things that sparked ideas. Sometimes dollar stores are really overwhelming and its hard to narrow down your search. I try to think classic, simple and quality. That might seem like an impossibility at the Dollar Tree, but you would be surprised. Solid colors, clean lines, interesting textures, wood, beads and florals are all good places to start. As I was walking out I saw a little bag of moss bunnies. I grabbed a beaded string and viola! In minutes I had a cute garland.
Any fun projects on your horizon? What is inspiring you this season?
Happy Spring!
See you soon,
